I miei primi due mesi di vita londinese.

ITA Queste ultime settimane sono state ricche di novità! Cominciamo dall'inizio: ai primi di settembre ho sostenuto due colloqui, uno per un part-time notturno in una biblioteca universitaria in zona 3, era un'opportunità molto interessante, nonostante l'orario (dalle 20 alle 24), che mi avrebbe permesso di acquisire tantissima esperienza e di gestire da sola un'intera biblioteca. Il secondo colloquio era per un posto da commessa per Primark nel fine settimana. Ho fatto domanda dopo aver saputo di aver ottenuto un colloquio per la biblioteca quindi ho cercato di incastrare le ore per poter fare entrambi i lavori nel caso fossi stata assunta. I colloqui erano la prima settimana di settembre e devo dire che nonostante tutte le mie ricerche sulle possibili domande e i miei tentativi di arrivare preparata, non sono stata particolarmente brillante durante il primo colloquio, quello per la biblioteca, sarà stata l'emozione ma il mio inglese è stato pessimo o almeno così mi è sembrato. Con Primark è stata tutta un'altra storia, ho trovato le domande ricorrenti su Glassdoor e ho potuto fare pratica con il mio ragazzo quindi durante il colloquio ero sicura di me, preparata e determinata. Una volta finito ero certa di aver ottenuto il posto, sembrerà presuntuoso ma avevo un fortissimo presentimento a riguardo. Colloquio @Primark Marble Arch - Interview @ Primark Marble Arch In effetti 3 giorni dopo mi hanno chiamato per offrirmi il posto e invece delle 14 ore del turno del fine settimana ne avevo ottenuto uno da 20 dal lunedì al venerdì. É stato davvero un bel momento di felicità e soddisfazione e non ho dato troppo peso al fatto che il turno non mi avrebbe permesso di fare anche il lavoro in biblioteca perché ero convinta che per quello non ci fosse speranza. Nei successivi due giorni ho completato le procedure online e stampato tutti i documenti necessari e venerdì mattina ero pronta per il mio Induction day! Primark sembra davvero un bel posto con persone simpatiche e soprattutto felici di lavorarci! Alla fine dell'Induction Day ero davvero entusiasta, non solo ero riuscita a trovare un lavoro in un mese ma era anche una posizione a cui ero davver interessata in un uno degli store più grandi e centrali di Londra. Ma le novità non erano finite, nel pomeriggio ho ricevuto una telefonata dalla società per cui avevo fatto il colloquio per il posto da bibliotecaria: se volevo il lavoro era mio! A quel punto però non potevo accettare, gli orari dei due lavori non coincidevano più e non potevo certo rinunciare a Primark che mi avrebbe dato tante opportunità di crescita, così a malincuore ho dovuto rinunciare. Tutto ciò ha smorzato un po' la bella atmosfera che si era creata in casa ma, come mi hanno ripetuto le coinquiline e le mie amiche, non è da tutti fare due colloqui e ottenere due lavori in un solo mese. So che è così, anche se in realtà sono a Londra mica a Cagliari, però non ci pago mica le bollette e l'affitto con le soddisfazioni! :P Dopo un mese di lavoro da Primark posso dire che mi trovo davvero bene, il lavoro non è difficile e tutti i colleghi e i manager sono simpaticissimi, hanno proprio ragione quando dicono che siamo una grande famiglia. Mi hanno anche dato varie ore di straordinario che mi fanno davvero comodo. Mi rendo conto che trasferirmi a Londra è stata la scelta giusta per me, a prescindere dal raggiungere il mio ragazzo, ci sono tantissime possibilità sia lavorative che culturali. Mi viene in mente il periodo in cui aprirono i negozi di Bershka e di Pull&Bear in un centro commerciale vicino a casa in Sardegna, centinaia di ragazz* si presentarono muniti di curriculum, la maggior parte erano laureati perché così chiedeva l'annuncio, tutto ciò per una decina di posti da commesso. Alla fine dei colloqui ci sono state tante polemiche e malumore da parte degli esclusi e di chi neanche ci aveva provato perché "...tanto prendono sempre i soliti raccomandati!". E questa storia si ripeteva ogni volta che un supermercato o un locale commerciale ricercava collaboratori, a peggiorare la situazione gli annunci venivano pubblicizzati su giornali locali online, gruppi di Facebook e siti di lavoro, mobilitando ovviamente centinaia di persone. Nella mia città c'è un numero altissimo di laureati che lavorano nei call center, lavoro che fino a qualche anno fa era l'ultimissima spiaggia, o nei fast food. Ho visto tantissimi colleghi laureati con ottimi voti provare la strada del Servizio Civile, così come ho fatto io, purtroppo però non è più un'occasione di inserimento lavorativo come in passato ma un modo per avere lavoratori sottopagati. Io ho lavorato come bibliotecaria e non avrei mai potuto continuare in Sardegna, o comunque sarebbe stato molto difficile riuscire a mantenermi. Per lavorare regolarmente avrei avuto bisogno di una qualifica regionale ma negli ultimi anni gli unici corsi organizzati erano quelli a pagamento con costi esosi e le assunzioni nelle varie biblioteche erano comunque bloccate. Anche avendo tutti i titoli in regola mi sarei dovuta accontentare di sostituzioni e contratti a tempo determinato. Qui a Londra, invece, ho ottenuto senza problemi un lavoro nel settore bibliotecario, anche se poi non l'ho potuto accettare, e avrei potuto fare altri corsi per specializzarmi ulteriormente e ampliare le mie possibilità in questo campo. Con questo non voglio dire che tutti dovrebbero seguire il mio esempio e partire all'estero, non è così facile, soprattutto se non si hanno un bel po' di risparmi da parte e le giuste motivazioni. Io ho avuto la fortuna di non dovermi preoccupare dell'alloggio e ho una persona che mi sta accanto e mi sostiene e questo è impareggiabile. Ci ho messo settimane a finire di scrivere e tradurre questo post per via del lavoro che mi lascia poco tempo per me, per fortuna ho il sabato e la domenica sempre liberi per riposare e visitare Londra! ENG These last weeks have been plenty of news! Let's start from the beginning: during the first days of september I've had two interviews, one was for a night shift part-time in a library in travel zone 3, it was a very interesting opportunity, despite the scheduled hours (from 8pm to 12am), which would have permitted me to acquire a lot of experience and to manage the entire library by myself. The second interview was for a vacancy as a retail assistant for Primark during the week end. I applied for it after I had already gotten an interview for the library so I tried to dovetail the hours in order to be able to do both in case I would have been hired. The interviews were on the first week of september as i said,and I have to say that although all my researches about the possible questions and my attempts to be prepared, I wasn't brilliant during the first interview, the one for the library, it might have been the emotion but my English was very bad or that's how it seemed to me anyway. With Primark it has been a completely different thing, I found the recurring questions on Glassdoor and I practiced with my boyfriend so during the interview I was confident, prepared and determined. Once finished I was sure to have gotten the job, it could seem presumptuous but I had a very strong feeling about it. Colloquio @ Regus - Intervie @ Regus Indeed three days later they called me with a job offer and instead of the 14 hours of the weekend shift I had gotten 20 hours from monday to friday. It was a beautiful moment of happiness and satisfaction and I didn't lend weight to the fact that this shift wouldn't allow me to do the other job in the library because I was sure there was no hope for that one. In the next two days I completed the online procedures and printed all the necessary papers and on friday morning I was ready for my Induction day! Induction Day Primark seems a really nice place with likeable people happy to work there! At the end of the Induction day I was really excited, not only I had found a job in a month but it was also something I was really interested in and it was in one of the biggest stores in London. But the news weren't ended, in the afternoon I received a call from the company I had the interview with for the librarian vacancy: if I wanted it the job was mine! At that point I couldn't accept it anymore, the shifts of the two jobs were incompatible and I couldn't quit at Primark that would give me a lot of development opportunity, so unwillingly I had to renounce. All of this has soften the happy environment that has been developed at home, but as my flatmates and my friends had repeteated me, not everyone would have two interviews and get two jobs in only one month. I know they're right, even if we are in London not in Cagliari, but I don't pay bills and rent with satisfactions! :P After one month working in Primark I can say that I find myself really well, the job isn't difficult and all the colleagues and the managers are really nice, they are right when they said we are a big family. They also gave me a lot of overtime that are always very useful. Anche se la stanchezza si fa sentire! - Even if at the end of the day I'm tired I realize that move to London has been the right choice for me, wheter or not for my boyfriend, there a lot of opportunity both working and cultural. It comes to mind the period when they open the stores Bershka and Pull&Bear in a mall near home in Sardinia, hundreds of persons showed up equipped of CV, most of them had a bachelor's degree because the job advertisement required a degree, all of this for a dozens of retail assistant's vacancies. At the end of the interviews there has been a lot of polemics and discontents from the excluded and from who hadn't even tried because "... they always choose people with connections!". And this history repeteated itself everytime that a supermarket, a bar or a store had a vacancy, even worse the job ads were published in the local online newspapers, facebook groups and job websites, mobilising obviously hundreds of persons. In my city there is a high number of graduated people working in call centers, a kind of job that since not long time ago was considered the very last resort, or they work in fast foods. I've seen a lot of university colleagues graduated with excellent grades try to do the Voluntary Service (a year of full time community work, paid as a part time), I did it as well, but unfortunately it's not an opportunity of working inclusion as it was before but a way to find underpaid workers. I've worked as a librarian and I would have never carried on in Sardinia, or even so it would have been very difficult to mantain me. To work regularly I would have needed a qualification but in the last years the only courses organised were the ones with very expensive fees and the hiring in the libraries were suspended anyway. Even with all the qualifcations I had to make do with replacements and fixed-terms contracts. Here in London, on the other hand, I had an offer for a job in the library field without problems, even if I couldn't accept it, and I would have done other specialization courses and increase my prospects in this field. With this I don't want to say that everyone should follow my example and go abroad, it's not that simple, especially without a lot of savings and the right motivations. I've had the luck not to have to bother for the accomodation and I have a person with me who support me and this is is matchless.
